Nuclear Medicine

Here, investigations are performed of the function of various organ systems using a gammacamera, and bone density measurement using the DEXA method.

We are located on the fourth floor opposite the Radiology Department.

The Nuclear Medicine Department performs investigations (scintigraphies) using a gammacamera. This technique involves the use of a weak radioactive solution in order to produce images and to study the function of various organs in the body. The department also performs bone density measurements.

Nuclear medicine tests (scintigraphies)

Investigations using a gammacamera of most organs and organ systems, e.g. the skeleton, the heart, the kidneys, the lungs and the brain.

We have two dual detector cameras that can be used for all types of investigations performed at our department and that can act as a backup for each other in the event of breakdowns and planned maintenance. This enables us to achieve short waiting times. We still have our dedicated triple-detector brain camera for cerebral bloodflow studies, e.g. for dementia investigations, and a single-head camera with which we study bedbound patients and perform certain special studies.

Bone density measurements
Drop-in Monday to Friday between 8:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. with referral letter.

Bone density studies using the DEXA method.

Measurement is normally performed on the lumbar spine and one hip when investigating osteoporosis or reduced bone density.

Note that accurate values in these areas cannot be achieved in the presence of fractures, or areas with severe degenerative changes, e.g. in the lumbar spine and following hip surgery.

We can also measure the wrist joint, hip prostheses and perform whole body studies, e.g. in research projects.

Note that in addition to requiring approval from the hospital committee for protection against radiation, planned research projects are also to be presented/discussed with the Department prior to the research subject/patient being referred for investigation.
